Longhorn

Our Story

The cattle history in Texas was founded by the Spanish and continued on after throughout Texas history. All the original cattle brought to the New World were originally from Spain and the area created an animal which was later called the Longhorn. By the 1900s, the Longhorn had almost gone extinct, so by 1921 there were hardly any purebred longhorns.

Enrique Guerra became interested in Longhorn cattle in 1946, after finding a pure strain of Longhorn cows in Northern Mexico. These cows were direct descendants of the first cattle imported by the Spanish Colonists during their arrival to America in the 1500s. Enrique Guerra was able to find 69 head of wild Longhorn cattle and herd them. To this day, San Vicente ranch continues to carefully preserve the purity of the Longhorn breed through selected breeding and DNA blood mapping.

To this day, we preserve the bloodline of the wild Longhorn and continue to ensure this population remains healthy and protected.
